Thatched roof cottage in Aspley Guise

Thatched roof cottage in Aspley Guise

Greetings from the UK (near Milton Keynes)

We arrived after a lovely business class flight on British Airways on Monday 07 Oct. We are staying with John’s sister and brother-in-law in Aspley Guise. We don’t know what Guise means. We visited with nephew Robert and wife Rosalie and son Ryan and niece Janet, husband Mike, and sons James and Jack.

  1. On Tuesday 08 Oct we went to Woburn Safari Park (on Duke of Bedford’s estate). Many animals on large areas. But here are meerkats in a small area.

The odyssey continues

We left Ashland Sunday 22 Sep and headed to Arcata. On the way, we stopped at the Tiger Preservation Center in Cave Junction, OR (see the separately posted photo). The trip might have been scenic but it was overcast and gloomy with not much visibility. We stayed the night in the Mad River Rapids RV Park, which is clean and fairly featureless. It does have respectable wifi (I am still working and need to connect up). It rained most of the night – we were snug in our nation.

On Monday after I finished work, we headed south. We paused to take in the sights in Eureka and took a spin on the Avenue of the Giants. We took one to the coast and ended up in Fort Bragg around 5:30. We stayed at the Pomo RV Park. It was unique in several ways – lots of greenery separating the sites, recycling containers, and a list of farmers’ markets.

Today, after I finished work, we set out for home pausing in the Anderson Valley at the Brutocao to pick up my wine shipment.

tigerpreservationcenter.com The center is a federally licensed rehabilitation facility. The woman in the photo is the founder. The animals love her; in many cases, she is the only person who can go into the cages. The center will open to the public soon. We were privileged to be early visitors.

Lingering thoughts about Hat Creek and Plans for today

Last night, we cooked the five large trout that we got from Ron and Idey, our neighbors in the Hat Creek Resort, as thanks for a bottle of Moose Drool (a beer from Montana, which the store at the resort carried).

I wanted to give a shout-out for JJ’s Cafe in Old Station (Lassen National Forest) open for breakfast and lunch. Great food and great people. When we arrived, we had to choose breakfast or lunch. They were doing breakfast but if we wanted lunch, they would switch over to lunch. We selected breakfast, a good choice. They cure their own corned beef, and smoke pastrami and pulled pork.

Today, we leave Serenity Falls to head down the lost coast to stay tonight in Arcata. We hope for a scenic drive.

In Serenity Falls, Ashland, OR

Yesterday, we motored up from Lassen National Forest to Ashland for a shared birthday dinner with Melissa (9/22) at Marty and Spike’s. We were pleased to meet Melissa’s friend Ruthie. This morning we were visited by a deer and fawn. This sure is a wild town.
